Wayne Cox

The veteran broadcaster Wayne Cox discusses his upcoming departure from Global BC after 20 years as a weather forecaster chiefly on the News Hour, his lengthy career in radio and television, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

Wayne Cox joins me now. He’s one of Vancouver and British Columbia’s most recognisable television personalities, and was so even before he became the weather forecaster on Global BC’s News Hour in 1998 succeeding Norm Grohman. He joins me today to reflect on his illustrious broadcasting career. It began in 1968 on radio in Quesnel, and moved onto Kamloops and later Vancouver, when he joined CKNW in the early 1970s. He’s also hosted a number of television programs including The Vancouver Show, TGIF, Variety Tonight, and syndicated game shows like Acting Crazy, Second Honeymoon, and Talkabout. In 2006 he was inducted into the Starwalk of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame at the Orpheum Theatre. Global BC’s News Hour airs nightly at 6.00pm on channel 11 here in Vancouver. In a couple of weeks, Wayne Cox will be leaving the broadcast. We’ll ask him about his future plans and more. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Wayne Cox; Mr. Cox, good morning.
