The renowned artist Gwyn Hanssen Piggot discusses her new exhibit at the Museum of Anthropology, Pleased to Meet You: Introductions by Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, with Joseph Planta, which runs until 24 March 2013.

Open now and running until 24 March 2013 at the Museum of Anthropology’s O’Brian Gallery is a new exhibit entitled, Pleased to Meet You: Introductions by Gwyn Hanssen Pigott. The celebrated ceramic artist had access to the Museum’s vast permanent collection, and what she’s done is reassembled pieces with some of her own. Some of the pieces would never be grouped together, and what one sees are so-called ‘introductions’ based on colour, form and pattern. It’s a compelling exhibit, and we sort of see a new aesthetic perspective develop when these objects are re-assembled. I am very pleased to be able to speak to Gwyn Hanssen Pigott just as the exhibit has opened. I’ll get her to tell us how this all came about, the process she took in putting these installations together, and what she sought to do in making these clever, ingenious, and remarkable introductions. Gwyn Hanssen Pigott is one of Australia’s most significant contemporary artists who has exhibited extensively in Australia, America, Europe and Asia. She’s won countless awards for her work, and in 2002 was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to the arts as a ceramic artist and teacher.
