The book is described as a ‘radical analysis of our master-and-slave relationship to energy,’ and it also calls for change when it comes to our dependence on oil. The book is entitled The Energy of Slaves: Oil and the New Servitude. Its author Andrew Nikiforuk joins me now, and I’ll ask him to tell us about the premise of the book and how he uniquely looks at our dependence to oil. We’ll also discuss how he sees our future, and whether we will do better—whatever better is. Andrew Nikiforuk is an award-winning journalist and the author of many critically acclaimed and bestselling books. His book Tar Sands won the Rachel Carson Environment Book Award, and his book on Wiebo Ludwig, Saboteurs, was the winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction.
