Hal Wake

Hal Wake, the artistic director of the Vancouver Writers Festival joins Joseph Planta once again for an annual preview of the festival, the authors expected, and the interesting events planned for readers and more, 16-21 October 2012.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

The Vancouver International Writers Festival celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year. Beginning Tuesday, 16 October 2012 and through to Sunday, 21 October 2012 there’ll be a lot of events featuring some very fine writers from this country and beyond. It’s a community experience and an internationally recognised event because of the impressive number of acclaimed and accomplished writers that converge on Granville Island each year. Hal Wake has been its artistic director for a number of years now since succeeding Alma Lee, who founded the festival. He’s been on annually, and I’m delighted to have him back on now to preview some of the events and perhaps look back at the last 25 years. Among those writers appearing this year include: Alistair MacLeod, David Suzuki, Margaret Atwood, Jane Urquhart, Louise Penny, Tim Flannery, Cory Doctorow, Linden MacIntyre, Gordon Pinsent, and many others. There’s something for everyone. Visit www.writersfest.bc.ca [1] for the lineups and ticket information. I’ve been supporting the organisation for a number of years now; they do great work. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Hal Wake; Mr. Wake, good morning.
