I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.

We talk now of Leonardo da Vinci and his most famous painting, the masterpiece that is The Last Supper. It’s the subject of a new book, Leonardo and the Last Supper by the bestselling and award winning author Ross King. He joins me now to discuss the book. I’ll ask him about da Vinci and how he came to paint the Last Supper, what it’s meant since, like what is its legacy, and what’s happened to it physically and in terms of the myths surrounding it. Ross King has won the Governor General’s Award for his previous book The Judgement of Paris. Other books he’s written, include books about Michelangelo and Machiavelli. His last book was Defiant Spirits: The Modernist Revolution of the Group of Seven, which was nominated for the Charles Taylor Prize. www.rosskingbooks.com [2] is his website.
