I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver at TheCommentary.ca.
Once again I’m joined by the author Tim Ward. The bestselling author was on just over a year ago when his big bestseller, the seminal, What the Buddha Never Taught was reissued on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary. Now, he’s written a new book. It’s an engrossing, thoughtful and touching book. I’m in the midst of it now, and find it’s achingly good. In the book, Ward climbs Kilimanjaro with his 20 year old son, Josh. Their relationship was never perfect—what relationship ever is—and they attempt to figure things out. They’ve got a lot to deal with: his divorce from Josh’s mother, rebellion, old grudges and more. At the same time, in the book, Mr. Ward also fleshes out his own growing up. It’s poignant and thought-provoking, and I only put it down to talk to Tim Ward now. The book is called Zombies on Kilimanjaro: A Father-Son Journey Above the Clouds. He mentioned it when he was last on, and we’ll ask him about the title.
