Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line. This is THECOMMENTARY.CA.

Joining me now is Dan Gardner. He is a senior writer at the Ottawa Citizen. He’s won multiple prizes as a writer and journalist, and was a senior policy adviser in the Ontario government, to the premier and the minister of education in the mid-1990s. His new book, his first, is called Risk: The Science and Politics of Fear. It is a tremendously interesting book about how we react to fear, why we react so, and what goes on in our brains as to how we assess risk in the world and in our lives. We are the safest and healthiest people in history, yet we’re increasingly fearful. The book is published by McClelland and Stewart and retails for $34.99. His website is www.dangardner.ca [2]. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Dan Gardner; Good morning, Mr. Gardner.
