Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line. This is THECOMMENTARY.CA.

As we get closer to this Remembrance Day, the 90th anniversary of the end of World War I, we talk to the historian Mark Zuehlke. He is the author of the very fine book-Brave Battalion: The Remarkable Saga of the 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish) in the First World War. We learn of the people who were so courageous and resilient. We learn about the world and the Canada of 90 years ago. Mark Zuehlke has been hailed by Jack Granatstein as Canada's leading popular historian. He is the author of eight critically acclaimed works on Canadian military history. He won the Canadian Author's Association Lela Common Award for Canadian History for his book, For Honour's Sake, which we discussed on the program previously. That was his book on the War of 1812. Brave Battalion is published by Wiley and retails for $36.95. The website for more is www.zuehlke.ca. In Victoria, this day, please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Mark Zuehlke; Good morning, Mr. Zuehlke.
