I am Planta: On the Line. This is THECOMMENTARY.CA.
What being white means is investigated, discussed, pondered and articulated in a fascinating, very funny, and very thoughtful book-The White Guy: A Field Guide.
The author Stephen Hunt joins me now, he is an arts reporter for the Calgary Herald, and has covered entertainment for the Globe and Mail, Sports Illustrated, the LA Times, New York Press, the CBC, NPR, and Saturday Night. The genesis of this book was in an Off Broadway play he produced, which was purchased for television by Warner Brothers and Quincy Jones.
The book is uproariously funny, and as I said thought-provoking. Being married to a black woman has perhaps enlightened Mr. Hunt on what makes white guys tick, what they value and how they communicate-or not. But he discusses all that in more in this highly recommended book, which is $22.95 from Douglas & McIntyre. It was recently excerpted in the National Post. Also, there are at least four references to Don Imus, and as an I-Fan, I was deeply impressed. I am pleased to welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Stephen Hunt; Good morning, Mr. Hunt.
