The state of Canadian multiculturalism is the subject of a recent book from Environics president Michael Adams. In Unlikely Utopia: The Surprising Triumph of Canadian Pluralism we read that the Canadian experiment of multiculturalism has worked. Though polling data and research, Adams finds out Canadians are proud of multiculturalism and continue to champion it. Should we be so optimistic though? Adams, though presenting a positive report, also outlines how we ought not to be too smug, that there are still realities and challenges we need to overcome. As the Bouchard-Taylor Commission in Quebec looks at 'reasonable accommodation,' this is a timely and informative read. Published by Viking, Unlikely Utopia retails for $34.00.
