Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:
You may not know it, but when British Columbians go to the polls in May, they'll also vote in a referendum regarding our electoral system. Voters will vote yes or no, as to whether the current system we use, first-past-the-post should be replaced by a new scheme popularly known as STV-a single transferable vote. There are knowledge gaps even for those of us who follow political affairs, so who better to have on today than a member of the Citizen's Assembly for Electoral Reform, the group that studied all kinds of electoral systems and which agreed upon the STV and recommends the same to the province.
Frankie Kirby was born in Portsmouth, England and has lived in British Columbia since 1972. She lives in the riding of Vancouver-Kensington, the very riding she co-represented on the Citizen's Assembly. Please welcome to THECOMMENTARY.CA, Frankie Kirby; Good afternoon, Ms. Kirby.
