The history of Vancouver can be gleaned and experienced in a new book called Backstage Vancouver: A Century of Entertainment Legends. From Harbour Publishing, it retails for $39.95 CDN. Very often, a city's cultural and social mores provide an invaluable insight into the city itself, and this book does a good job reflecting the city as it made that transition from "milltown to metropolis." The book's authors, Greg Potter and Red Robinson are on the line.

Greg Potter has covered pop culture since 1988 for such publications as the Vancouver Sun, the Georgia Straight, the Vancouver Courier, Vancouver magazine, and TV Week. In 1999, he published Hand Me Down World, a look at the evolution of the Canadian music industry. And the legendary Red Robinson has been nothing less than an institution in this city, instrumental in introducing rock and roll to Canadian audiences at CJOR, CKWX, CISL, and CFUN. In 1995, Mr. Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Dedicated to the One I Love exhibit; and in 1997 was inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame.
