Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at TheCommentary.ca.

The fury that surrounds us thanks to social media and technology of the sort, really prevents us from having meaningful conversations about anything serious nowadays. Our discourse, and some would say our politics as well, finds the loudest voices ubiquitous, yet divisive, and hardly representative. A new book looks at things we can do in our own lives. The book is called Fifteen Paths: How to Tune Out Noise, Turn on Imagination and Find Wisdom. Its author is David Weitzner, who joins me now to talk about what he’s found out thanks to the research he did, and the conversations he had with fourteen music and literary artists including: Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Nels Cline of Wilco, master clown Slava Polunin, Jeff Coffin of the Dave Matthews Band, Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, Mike Mignola of Hellboy, and Lydia Lunch. It’s a useful book and full of insight. David Weitzner is a philosopher, music industry executive, and professor of strategy. This new book is published by ECW. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, David Weitzner; Dr. Weitzner, good morning.
