Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

A terribly important book one must get is the new book by Dr. Kathy Kortes-Miller, Talking About Death Won’t Kill You: The Essential Guide to End-of-Life Conversations. It’s necessary because we spend too much time not preparing for the inevitable. Most are unprepared, and in the wake of one’s death, the headache left for loved ones can be quite a burden. Also, with the Supreme Court of Canada ruling in favour of allowing medically hastened death, a more humane way of living and dying is available, and ought to be considered. This book is accessible and useful. Dr. Kortes-Miller joins me now. I’ll get her to talk about her experience educating and her research in aging and death education. Kathy Kortes-Miller is an assistant professor at the School of Social Work and the Palliative Care Division Lead at the Centre for Education and Research on Aging and Health (CERAH) at Lakehead University. This new book is published by ECW Press. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Kathy Kortes-Miller; Dr. Kortes-Miller, good morning.
