The performer Emelia Symington Fedy discusses her memoir Trying to Be Good: And the Healing Powers of Lying, Cheating, Stealing and Drugs (2018), with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

To say that Emelia Symington Fedy has had an eventful life would be an understatement. She has just published a radio play memoir, Trying to Be Good: And the Healing Powers of Lying, Cheating, Stealing and Drugs. I don’t know where to begin in terms of describing it. She grew up in a small town in British Columbia, and recounts the tribulation and abuse she encountered growing up. This is particularly timely in the age of the #MeToo movement, as Ms. Fedy discusses frankly the sexual assault that is prevalent in almost every woman’s life. She talks about her father and mother, her own experience of motherhood, as well looks at feminism, friendship and the performing arts, where she has built a career as an artist, clown, and radio personality. This new audiobook is available from Audible.com, as well more information can be found at Emelia’s website www.tryingtobegood.com. She joined me from Toronto earlier this week. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Emelia Symington Fedy; Ms. Fedy, good morning.
