Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Seth Rudetsky joins me now. The sought-after musical director and SiriusXM radio host has just published Seth’s Broadway Diary, Volume 3: The Inside Scoop on (Almost) Every Broadway Show and Star. It’s a compilation of his On Stage and Backstage columns from Playbill.com, and they’re a marvelous insight into performing with and befriending the theatre’s biggest stars. He’s trusted by a lot of them and they offer fascinating insights into their career, their work, and the Broadway shows that Mr. Rudetsky has great enthusiasm for. That affection and esteem shine through these insightful columns, and in his radio and internet work. His Deconstructing videos presented online, are done with such reverence that Mr. Rudetsky has done much to elevate the Broadway musical, and they’re also just so funny. Seth Rudetsky’s work as a music director and pianist includes accompanying such stars as Audra McDonald, Andrea Martin, Gavin Creel, Kristin Chenoweth, Patti LuPone, and many more, including Chita Rivera, who Seth was conducting for last night in Chicago, where I reached him from. He has been the pianist for such shows as Les Miserables, The Producers, and Ragtime. His SiriusXM show Seth Speaks airs afternoons. He tours regularly with his show Deconstructing Broadway. Disaster! Was the title of his most recent Broadway musical. He’s also written two previous novels My Awesome/Awful Popularity Plan, and The Rise and Fall of a Theatre Geek.
