Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Davin De Kergommeaux joins me now. He is a whisky expert and he’s just published the revised and updated, Canadian Whisky: The New Portable Expert, Second Edition. It’s a great showcase of the various Canadian whisky that’s available throughout Canada. Since the book was published five years ago, the market has expanded. There are the so-called Big Eight traditional distilleries, Alberta Distillers, Black Velvet, Canadian Mist, Forty Creek, Gimli, Highwood Distillers, Hiram Walker and Sons, and Valleyfield. And there are dozens of micro distillers across the country, and many here in British Columbia. I’ll get Davin to tell us about some of these places, and just what sets Canadian whisky apart from the rest. It’s easy to turn up ones nose to it, but there’s a lot that’s enjoyable, and this book is a great guide. Davin De Kergommeaux has been writing, talking and teaching about whisky in all its forms for over two decades. He is the world’s leading authority on Canadian whisky. He is a former contributing editor to Whisky Magazine, and he’s contributed to and co-authored eight other books on whisky, spirits, and cocktails. Visit his website at www.canadianwhisky.org. His Twitter handle is @davindek. This new book is published by Appetite, which is an imprint of Random House. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in Vancouver this past week, Davin De Kergommeaux; Mr. De Kergommeaux, good morning.
