The most recent book from the Dutch journalist and historian Rutger Bregman is Utopia For Realists: How We Can Build the Ideal World. He joined me last week while in town to speak at TED2017. The book is revolutionary in how it calls for a universal basic income, a fifteen-hour workweek, and open borders. It is the author’s contention that these ideas if put in place would see us achieve utopia. I’ll get Mr. Bregman, who joins me now, to explore his book and the world he would like to see. He makes a compelling case that it’s not unthinkable and that it is possible, considering what’s happened in the last 100 years plus years: women’s suffrage and universal marriage. Not to mention the abolition of slavery. Rutger Bregman is a journalist at The Correspondent. He’s published four previous book that have been acclaimed and bestselling.
