Mark Schneider

The journalist Mark Schneider discusses the media today and its future, his thoughts on the American election, his years in retirement, and more, with Joseph Planta.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Mark Schneider joins me now. The journalist joins me now to reflect on his over 35 year career, his retirement since, as well as matters contemporary. We’ll talk about the American election I’m sure, as well as the ongoing constitutional challenge of the Medicare system by Dr. Brian Day. I’ll ask Mr. Schneider about journalism today, television news, and pressing contemporary issues and how he sees them being covered by the media today. Mark Schneider was with CTV for many years, serving as Vancouver bureau chief for the CTV National News, as well as a reporter on ethics and technology until 2008. A lot of us remember his years as the Ottawa bureau chief for BCTV, when they had a reporter and bureau in the nation’s capital. Before that he was a reporter and producer on the Jack Webster television program, as well as a reporter on CBC Television and CBC Radio. He established one of Canada’s first community radio stations in Alert Bay in 1975. In his retirement, I understand he’s sailed a lot. I’ll ask him about his adventures on the water. The Twitter handle is @WizenedNewsGuy [1]. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program in person today, Mark Schneider; Mr. Schneider, good morning.
