Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Gail Anderson-Dargatz joins me again. Her new novel The Spawning Grounds has just been published. The book set in the Thompson Shuswap region of British Columbia tells a family’s story, one intertwined with a place, and one that affects and is affected by the nature around them. It’s a story that speaks to the theme of legacy, environmental and familial. I’ll get Gail who joins me now to tell us about her book and these characters she’s created. Gail Anderson-Dargatz was last on this program nine years ago when her previous book Turtle Valley was published. Her books have been published worldwide. Her previous books The Cure for Death by Lightning, and A Recipe for Bees were international bestsellers and we both finalists for the Giller Prize. Her other books, Turtle Valley, and A Rhinestone Button were national bestsellers. The website for more is at www.gailanderson-dargatz.ca. The Twitter handle is @AndersonDargatz. The book is published by Knopf. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in Sorrento, British Columbia, Gail Anderson-Dargatz; Ms. Anderson-Dargatz, good morning.
