Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Chris Lam joins me again. He’s directing a new production of Dogfight, a musical version of the 1991 film, which starred River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. The lyrics and music is by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul, with the book by Peter Duchan. The sow is about three marines who on the night before their deployment to Vietnam decide to go out for a night on the town, and as the title of the piece suggests bet on which of the three brings back the ugliest date to a party. I’ll get Mr. Lam to tell us about the show, and about the performers, as well as the production which is presented with minimal props and costume pieces. We’ll also discuss the casting of this show, which is amidst all the conversations had about casting in theatre here in Vancouver. Chris Lam is a Jessie nominee and Ovation Award winner. He is directing this Semper Fi Collective production, which is presented in association with Renegade Arts Company. The show is at the Pacific Theatre, 16-19 March 2016. Call 604 731 5518 for tickets. Chris Lam is a graduate of Douglas College and Capilano University. He was last on in the fall discussing the production of The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, which he directed. The Twitter handle is @dogfightvan2016. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Chris Lam; Mr. Lam, good morning.
