Danielle Rana, interim executive director of KidSafe talks to Joseph Planta about the not-for-profit’s efforts this Christmas season, providing meals and support to children living in poverty in East Vancouver schools this holiday season.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Just before we go off into Christmas week and the rest of the holiday season, celebrating with family and friends, let’s visit with the folks over at KidSafe. During this time of year one in five children are living in poverty. That’s something like 167,000 kids who face hunger and loneliness year round. Imagine how much more visceral that is at Christmas. Joining me now is Danielle Rana, the interim executive director of the KidSafe, the not-for-profit organisation committed to providing meals and programs at six elementary schools in East Vancouver. I’ll get her to tell us about the organisation, and the 20,000 hours of support and nearly five thousand meals they provide to vulnerable children during the holiday season. The website is at www.kidsafe.ca. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Danielle Rana; Ms. Rana, good morning.
