Catherine Laub, a soprano and educator discusses the life of Viktor Ullman and the upcoming performances [1] of his final piece Cornet (16-18 October 2015), and more, with Joseph Planta.

Viktor Ullmann’s final piece, Cornet will be performed later this week on three nights, in three different places. Joining me now is Catherine Laub, who’ll tell us about Ullmann, this work, his legacy, and these upcoming performances. This year is the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and Elysium continues its mandate of producing music created by people persecuted by the Nazi regime marks this final work by Ullmann, who had been deported to Theresienstadt in 1942, and who was killed at Auschwitz in 1944. Catherine Laub is a soprano, who is the artistic director of the Second Sunday Concert Series at the Roedde House Museum here in Vancouver. She was also co-director of the Erato Ensemble from 2006-2013. She is a member of Kallisto, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and the Windsong Trio. Her website is at www.catherinelaub.com [2].
