The Georgia Straight’s Miranda Nelson talks to Joseph Planta about Gamergate, feminism, Vancouver, Mad Men, and more.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Miranda Nelson joins me now. She is assistant editor for Straight.com, the website for the Georgia Straight. She’s been with The Straight since 2008, and joins me now to look at current events in late June 2015, just before summer, and before what promises to be a hectic fall what with a federal election in the offing. I’ve invited Ms. Nelson on the program now, if you follow the media in Vancouver, she’s ubiquitous on social media, Twitter especially. She’s been on the receiving end of a lot of vitriol online, and I wanted to explore why she’s getting it, and the sorts of conversations that happen online that deteriorate to name calling, threats, and outright abuse. I’ll ask her about Gamergate, feminism, current affairs, as well as public transit, and more. Her own blog can be found at: http://farmhousepress.wordpress.com. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in studio as it were, Miranda Nelson; Ms. Nelson, good morning.
