Spirit of the West’s John Mann, opening tonight as the Emcee in Cabaret, talked with Joseph Planta about his starring role in the Arts Club Theatre Company’s latest. Mann discussed the Kander and Ebb musical, performing on the stage, his tour-de-force performance in last year’s Miss Saigon, and the legendary role that won Joel Grey a Tony and an Oscar.

It’s Berlin in the 1930s. You’re in the Kit Kat Club, it’s smoke-filled, gaudy and bawdy. Holding court is John Mann, who dons the role of The Emcee in the Arts Club’s latest production, Cabaret.

For more than 20 years, John Mann was involved in a little band called Spirit of the West. He’s appeared in such television series as DaVinci’s Inquest, Dead Zone, Cold Squad, Battlestar Galactica, Haunted, and Dark Angel. He’s hit the boards in productions such as The Three Penny Opera, Joni Mitchell: River, and in his last appearance at the Arts Club, gave a breathtaking performance as the Engineer in Miss Saigon.
