Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

There’s a splendid book that came out last fall, that’s been selling well and has received a lot of great critical notice. It’s called The Sea Among Us: The Amazing Strait of Georgia. It was recently shortlisted for the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize, whose winner will be revealed at the BC Book Prizes 25 April 2015 here in Vancouver. One of its editors, Dr. Richard Beamish joins me now. I’ll get him to tell us about this book, how he and his co-collaborator Gordon McFarlane got together to put it together, and the goal in the process. Dr. Beamish has a PhD in zoology from the University of Toronto, and has been honoured for his distinguished work with the Prix D’Excellence, the Queen’s Golden, and Diamond Jubilee medals, the Order of Canada, and the Order of British Columbia. He was a member of the International Panel on Climate Change that received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. This book is from Harbour Publishing. The website for more is at www.richardbeamish.com. Royalties for the book go to the Pacific Salmon Foundation. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, in Nanaimo, BC today, Richard Beamish; Dr. Beamish, good morning.
