Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Diane Brown joins me again. The artistic director of Ruby Slippers Theatre is set to take the stage in the title role of The Duchess a.k.a. Wallis Simpson, a production they’re producing. It runs 07-18 April 2015 at the Historic Theatre at The Cultch. Written by the late Linda Griffiths, the play depicts Wallis Simpson, the twice divorced American who King Edward VIII gave up the throne for. The 1936 abdication provided Britain and the Empire with a constitutional crisis unseen before or since. In the play, ten prominent Vancouver actors play 36 roles, illustrating the life and times of Mrs. Simpson. I’ll ask Diane about what it’s like playing her, and about this play written by the highly regarded playwright and performer Linda Griffiths, who died last September. Go to www.tickets.thecultch.com [1] for tickets and information. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Diane Brown; Ms. Brown, good morning.
