Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

There’s a new book that looks at how we are affected by pressure and how we react to it. The book is called Performing Under Pressure: The Science of Doing Your Best When it Matters the Most, and one of its authors joins me now. We tend to believe that we do our best, that we rise to the occasion, when under pressure, but that’s not the case. Pressure undermines performance, and the authors of the book look at how to deal with pressure. JP Pawliw-Fry joins me now. He and Hendrie Weisinger have looked at surveys and research of over 12,000 people on pressure and its effects on them. They also provide solutions to be used when ‘in the moment,’ when under pressure, will serve us well. JP Pawliw-Fry is an international performance coach based in Toronto and Chicago, who’s advised business leaders at Fortune 500 companies, as well as Olympic athletes. He is a member of the Institute for Health and Human Potential, and was formerly affiliated with the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. The website for more is at www.ihhp.com. The book is published by Crown Business. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, JP Pawliw-Fry; Dr. Pawliw-Fry, good morning.
