Sunday, 21 December 2014 is Crossword Puzzle Day, so named as it’s the anniversary upon which Arthur Wynne published his first puzzle. We mark it today with one of Canada’s top designers of crosswords, Gwen Sjogren. She’s recently published her latest: O Canada Crosswords Book 15. These books are bestsellers, and immensely popular for their wordplay, puns, and trivia. I’m not a crossword puzzler myself, but I had a lot of fun thinking of the answers to the clues in the puzzles in this book. I’ll ask Ms. Sjogren to tell us about what it’s like to create puzzles, and their enduring popularity. We all know people whose day isn’t complete without doing today’s puzzle in the paper.
