Alan Doyle has been touring the country as well as the United States to talk about his new memoir, Where I Belong: From Small Town to Great Big Sea. Everywhere he’s gone he’s had a marvellous reception for him, for this book, and for the stories therein which talk about his growing up in a small fishing village in Newfoundland. It’s a Newfoundland story of family, of childhood, and music. It’s such a charming book, tough to put down, and makes one long to visit his hometown of Petty Harbour, as well as the rest of his home province. Alan Doyle joined me last week as he came through town for an event with the Writers Fest. I’ll get him to tell us about this book, and perhaps give us a glimpse of his coming-of-age in an all-too Canadian town. Alan Doyle is a Canadian musician and actor, and a lead singer of the folk-rock band Great Big Sea.
