Ray Argyle joins me again. He recently published a new book, The Paris Game: Charles de Gaulle, the Liberation of Paris, and the Gamble that Won France. It’s at once a telling of the story of de Gaulle, from French soldier to General, to leading the fight for a Free France against Nazi Germany. Narrated too is the relationship de Gaulle had with Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt, as well as the post-war years in France that de Gaulle so dominated. What we have in this book, quite clearly is the author’s love of France. It’s a charming book about the France that Ray Argyle so admires, having spent many years visiting, and studying, especially following the life of de Gaulle. Ray Argyle is a journalist and the author of several books, including Turning Points: The Campaigns that Changed Canada, which he was on with ten years ago, and Joey Smallwood: Schemer and Dreamer, which we discussed in 2012.
