I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.
Last year, I visited two Presidential Libraries, George W. Bush’s in Dallas, and Lyndon Johnson’s in Austin. When you go to any of the National Archives Libraries—and there are 13—you can buy one of these souvenir passports, and should you visit any of them, you can get it stamped. Well, now my goal is to visit all of them, and last month I made the trip to Yorba Linda to see Richard Nixon’s, flying out in the morning, and flying home in the evening. It was great fun, and in narrating my day trip to the Nixon Library on Twitter and Facebook, I got an email from Rachel Wood, a literary publicist who has booked guests on this program in the past, who suggested I should talk to her husband, the literary agent Brian Wood, as he’s got a great interest in all this. Anyway Brian is here, and we’ll talk about our mutual interest in history, but beyond that we’ll talk about his work as an agent. He recently sold the Tie Domi memoir, which I understand will be published in the fall of 2015, as well as numerous other hockey and sports related books. If that wasn’t enough he’s also a poet. He’s recently published a collection of poems, Winter Walk. We’ll talk about that and more. Brian J. Wood began in the book industry working for Prospero Books in Ottawa and Toronto, and became the regional book buyer for Coles out here in BC, and a couple of years later was the western regional buyer for Chapters Indigo.
