Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

The decline in our discourse, culturally and politically is troubling. We’re seeing more and more a less sane politics, and both zealots on the left and right are responsible. We’re often divided into crazy and non-crazy. There’s a really great book out now, Enlightenment 2.0: Restoring Sanity to Our Politics, Our Economy, and Our Lives. Its author Joseph Heath joins me now. I’ll get him to tell us about the complex and abstract concepts that he breaks down in this accessible, fun, and fascinating book. It is replete with examples from our media environment, and the result is a very thoughtful book on the path we’re on, and possible course corrections that could result in an improved populace and society. Joseph Heath is the director of the Centre for Ethics at the University of Toronto, and is a professor in the Department of Philosophy, and the School of Public Policy and Governance. He’s also a Trudeau Foundation Fellow. He’s written five previous books including the bestsellers Filthy Lucre, and The Rebel Sell, which he co-wrote with Andrew Potter. This book is published by HarperCollins. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, from Toronto today, Joseph Heath; Professor Heath, good morning.
