Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

One of my favourite guests in the life of this program—nearly ten years now—is the fellow I’m to speak with now. He’s sitting in front of me as it were, and he’s got another great collection out: The Best of Adrian Raeside: A Treasury of BC Cartoons. It’s already a bestseller, as have his previous collections: The Rainbow Bridge: A Visit to Pet Paradise, and the two books he was previously on with, last year’s Tails Don’t Lie: A Decade of Dog Cartoons, and 2012’s No Sailing Waits and Other Ferry Tales: 30 Years of BC Ferries Cartoons. This new one covers a lot of Raeside’s 30 plus years illustrating the editorial pages of the Victoria Times Colonist. I had a lot of fun reading this book, and looking back at our history through his witty, pointed and thoughtful pen. Whether it’s the premiers we’ve survived; the environment and environmentalists; the HST; the various institutions worth lampooning: BC Ferries, BC Hydro, ICBC; Victoria itself; the Olympics and more, there’s so much represented in this collection. His comic strip: The Other Coast, and his editorial cartoons appear in hundreds of newspapers and magazines internationally. Visit www.raesidecartoon.com [2] for more. This book is from our friends at Harbour Publishing. He lives in Whistler, but joins me in person today. Please welcome back to the Planta: On the Line program, Adrian Raeside; Mr. Raeside, good morning.
