Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line, in Vancouver, at TheCommentary.ca.

Patricia Pearson joins me again. The celebrated journalist and writer has a new book out: Opening Heaven’s Door: What the Dying May Be Trying to Tell Us About Where They’re Going. It’s an engrossing book, one that’s fascinating. Six years ago, both Ms. Pearson’s father and sister died. Her sister had been ill, however her father had died suddenly. Her sister Katherine, in another city, around the time their father died, had a spiritual experience. I’ll get Ms. Pearson to tell us about that, and the subsequent journey that she set upon to look at explaining what happens when we die. I’ll ask her about all the medical, social, and psychological studies formal and anecdotal that she looked at about the journey we take as we leave this mortal coil, as well as the near-death experiences that loved ones, as well as people in the hospital and hospice sector witness. This book is a great look at the spiritual dimension to life and death that we often overlook, that we might perhaps not disclose, and that we all experience. Patricia Pearson is an award-winning journalist and novelist. She is a recipient of the Arthur Ellis Award, a finalist for the Leacock Prize, and she was last on for her previous book, A Brief History of Anxiety (Yours and Mine).
