Bill Millerd, famed director and Artistic Managing Director of the Arts Club Theatre Company talked with Joseph Planta about their latest production at the Stanley Theatre in Vancouver, Funny Girl.

Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

Who was Fanny Brice? What is Funny Girl all about? Are “people who need people, the luckiest people in the world?” We’ll answer those questions and more this morning, with my guest, Bill Millerd, the director of the Arts Club Theatre’s latest production, Funny Girl, which debuts tonight in previews and which opens next Wednesday, November 17, 2004.

Bill Millerd is the Artistic Managing Director of the Arts Club Theatre Company. He’s held that position since 1972, during which time he’s overseen over 400 productions, over a hundred of which he’s directed. He is a Governor of the National Theatre School of Canada, and a Member of the Order of Canada. Millerd oversaw the construction of the Mainstage and Revue stages on Granville Island in 1979 and 1983, respectively. He was also instrumental in the restoration of the Stanley Theatre, which opened in 1998 as the Arts Club’s newest venue. It’s the same Stanley Theatre where next Wednesday night, November 17th, Funny Girl opens. A visit to www.artsclub.com [1], or a call to TicketMaster will get you all the pertinent information.
