By Joseph Planta
VANCOUVER -- As previously stated in this space, the movies that most register on Oscar’s honouring screen are those films that are released in the fall and winter months of the year. The run up to the December 31st deadline sees the most vibrant jockeying for award recognition. Herewith are highlights of the movies to be released in the month of November.
5-time Oscar nominee and multiple Tony winner, Glenn Close returns in a sequel to 101 Dalmatians. In 102 DALMATIANS, she co-stars with French actor Gérard Depardieu. 102 opens on November 22nd.
Jude Law, Ed Harris and Joseph Finnes star in Jean-Jacques Annaud’s ENEMY AT THE GATES. It’s a wartime drama that sees Law in his first leading role. It opens on the (US) Thanksgiving long weekend.
CHARLIE’S ANGELS, the long-awaited action flick directed by music video vet McG, opens on November 3. It stars Drew Barrymore (who co-produces,) Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu as the angels, while Bill Murray dons the role of Bosley. John Forsythe, is heard but not seen as Charlie himself.
Jim Carrey’s previous outing in Man on the Moon was a critical fave. This time he goes for more commercial fare in Ron Howard’s DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. It co-stars SNL’s Molly Shannon, Christine Baranski of CBS’ Welcome To New York and Larry Sanders’ Jeffery Tambour. Grinch opens November 17th.

THE 6TH DAY managed to keep the Vancouver Public Library closed in the short term, while open in the long term. It co-stars Robert Duvall, but it’s its star Arnold Schwarzenegger that folks will trot out to see when 6th opens on the 17th.
